Veteran Friendly Practice Accreditation

Veteran Friendly Practice accreditation was launched as part of an NHS 10 year plan to improve veteran engagement with healthcare providers.

As part of the health commitments of the Armed Forces Covenant, the surgery can support veterans, and can where appropriate refer or help them access specialist healthcare services. Regardless of when service personnel left the UK Armed Forces, advising your GP of your veteran status will help the GP to better understand any military-related health conditions, and ensure that, where appropriate, you are referred to dedicated services for veterans.

After serving in the UK Armed Forces, some people find it hard to adjust to civilian life. Op COURAGE works together with Armed Forces charities and NHS services to make sure people who have served and are struggling with their mental health and wellbeing get the specialist care, support, and treatment for their specific needs. Additionally, OpCOURAGE recognises that family members may also need help and care, and supports them to access these services.

Information about NHS healthcare for the Armed Forces community includes mental health support, information for families, and guides to services, charities, and support groups. There is also a step-by-step guide for service leavers.
