Online Services - NHS App

Update: changes to Online Access from 20th March 2023

Please note:

Patients that already use the NHS App or NHS website, online services will resume on the 20th March 2023. 

Patients who access online services with other methods will no longer be able to do so after the 2nd March 2023 - we are encouraging all patients to sign up with the NHS App or the NHS Wesbite so that you can continue to use online services on and after the 20th March 2023.

GP online services allow you to access a range of services via your computer, mobile or tablet. Once you have signed up, you will be able to:

  • book or cancel appointments online
  • renew or order repeat prescriptions online
  • view parts of your GP record, including information about medication, allergies, vaccinations, previous illnesses and test results

You can still contact the practice by phone or in person, this is just another option, which other patients have found is more convenient and saves them time. More information including “how to” leaflets and videos of patients and why they are using GP online services are available at

For more information, please contact reception or next time you visit the surgery, bring with you a piece of photo ID (passport, driving licence) and something with your address on like a bank statement but not a gas or electric bill. If you don’t have these, please talk to us and we will help you sign-up


What are Online Services?

The NHS is committed to developing electronic access to assist patients in the management of their healthcare needs. The system is a website that allows patients to access medical services over the internet. It allows you to easily and quickly order a repeat prescription or book an appointment and view areas of your medical records; further services will be added over the coming months. The information is presented to you in a format that is easy to navigate and will in time offer links to resources such as patient information leaflets about diseases, tests, investigations, support groups and medications etc. There will also be links to websites such as NHS Direct Online and where you can find additional information to help you understand and educate yourself about your health.

Registering and consenting to use the Online Access System.

To be able to use the system you must have a PC with a web browser such Internet Explorer (version 6 or later) and have a connection to the internet.

You must also register with the practice and sign a consent form before you start using the system.

A copy of the consent form is available to download and print below.

Once you have signed the consent form and presented it at the surgery, you will be issued with a username and password that will allow you to access the system from any PC. (N.B. you may be asked to proved ID.)

Any data held by the practice concerning you is subject to the regulations laid down in the Data Protection Act (1998). The consent is between you and Parkway Medical Group.


Under 16

A parent or other legal guardian may apply for access to online services on behalf of a person under the age of 16 years.  However, young people do have the right to consult us without an adult being present.  Whilst we would normally encourage them to speak about health issues they may have with a parent or guardian, where a young person has sufficient understanding to understand the consequences of their decisions (and there is no suggestion of abuse) we will respect their right to CONFIDENTIALITY.


Respecting patient confidentiality is an essential part of good care.  This applies whether the patient is a child or young person as well as when the patient is an adult.  Without the trust that confidentiality brings, children and young people might not seek medical care and advice, or they might not tell a Doctor all the facts needed to provide good care.  The same duties of confidentiality  apply when using, sharing or disclosing information about children and young people as about adults.  If there is information given by the child or young person in confidence, in giving those with parental responsibility on line access to their children’s records there is a risk that we could breach the confidentiality of the child.


For this reason, we will turn off parental/guardian access to online services when a young person turns 11 years of age.  A young person may reapply in person with identification when they are 16 years of age.

Named Accountable GP

As from 1st April 2015, as part of our GMS contract, we are required to allocate a named, accountable GP to all of our patients, including children.  All patients at this practice are allocated a named, accountable GP.  When you are next at reception or contact us by telephone please ask who your named GP is,  the receptionist will be able to give you this information.   If you wish to change the name of your named, accountable GP to another GP we will do our best to accommodate your request.  Please be aware that this does not restrict you to that named GP, you are free to see whichever GP you wish.
